The Revitalisation of the 5 Eliza Hub

5 Eliza has developed  a comprehensive plan for revitalisation of the Newtown School of Arts building and its business model. The plan seeks to double the existing floor plan, quadruple cultural output, expand the support of creative workers and return the public to the heritage building and make it accessible to all.

This boutique performing arts hub will be expanded to feature a revitalised heritage Main Theatre equipped as a flexible 200-seat music and performance venue; a new and affordable 50-seat studio theatre for the development of new work; four artist studios; incubator spaces; and a profit-for-purpose arts café.

Project plans were developed in consultation with the arts and cultural sectors to meet industry needs, ascertained by community partners and verified by an independent Demand and Viability Analysis and a Cost Benefit Analysis. They address the Inner West Council’s and NSW Government’s policy for increasing availability of affordable and sustainable cultural spaces. This project will expand 5 Eliza’s 120 year plus legacy of supporting independent arts and the community.

NSW Minister for the Arts the Hon Ben Franklin MLC announced a $1.95m matched funding grant for the historic Newtown School of Arts. The upgrade will transform the building into a modern , multi-genre arts hub whilst retaining its remarkable and intact heritage fabric.
